DAY 1 – 4.1km
You will take a 4WD adventure transfer from Hervey Bay via the barge to the Eastern Beach of Fraser Island. Your transfer will drop you to the entrance of Lake Wabby, where you can enjoy a lunch stop. Then in the afternoon your hiking adventure begins with a short hike in Lake Wabby, once you’ve arrived relax by the stunning Lake Wabby or go to the lookout and enjoy a scenic view of the vast Eastern Beach. Set up your camp and spend the first night camping under the stars!
DAY 2 – 12km (optional 22.8km)
Wake up early and take a dip in the fresh morning water of Lake Wabby or go to the lookout and see the sunrise over the eastern beach, before having a quick breakfast and packing up camp ready for the next destination. Spend the second day hiking through untouched rainforest and old ancient eucalypt forest to the beautiful Lake McKenzie. Distance is approximately 12km or challenge yourself to the 22km option via Pile Valley, Central Station and Basin Lake. Once you have arrived at Lake McKenzie, set up camp and enjoy a splash in the lake at sunset.
DAY 2 – 13.8km
Spend the morning swimming at Lake McKenzie, also known by its indigenous name ‘Lake Boorangoora’. Enjoy the serenity of the secret hikers beach. Have lunch at fenced, picnic enclosures near the lake. Then hike from Lake McKenzie to Kingfisher Bay Resort enjoying the peaceful and calm nature as you hike back. Along the way you will stop by a historical site – McKenzie’s Jetty. Once you have arrived at the Kingfisher Jetty you are able to have a refreshing drink and snack, whilst you wait for your 4WD transfer back to Hervey Bay.
Note: At times there are NO toilet facilities and human waste must be buried at least 50cm deep. Fresh water is available at each camp but may have to be treated first.
