HOLIDAY HERE THIS YEAR! #Australia

Holiday Here This Year is a campaign launched by Tourism Australia to initially help support the bushfire affected areas in January 2020 by getting Australians to holiday domestically. Covid-19 soon hit Australia hard in the following months shutting down our borders to international travellers. This campaign continues to encourage Australians to support tourism operators and communities around the country by planning and booking a domestic holiday. Australian Tourism believes that domestic tourism will lead the recovery.

Tourism, as an industry is important to the economy as on the Fraser Coast visitor economy, contributes to over 6000 jobs providing employment opportunities for the local population across not just the tourism industry but accommodation, food services, education and training. In a time where workers are losing their jobs, any contribution to creating them is positive especially when it’s promoting the beauty of Fraser Island while still implementing precautions to preserve it.

Fraser Island is a World Heritage site and is the largest sand island in the world. With its pristine lakes and unique beauty, it is a must-see on many international visitors lists when they come to Australia and Queensland. The island is visited by over 300,000 visitors per year! With international borders closed, it is the perfect opportunity for Australians to holiday domestically and see what Australia has to offer in its own backyard.

Here at Fraser Dingo, many of our customers were international travellers before Covid-19 threw a spanner into the works. Through this campaign from Tourism Australia, we have noticed a major increase in visitor numbers that come from all over the country and are experiencing Fraser Island for the first time and commenting on how we have this in our own backyard.
