An adventure hike is a self-guided hiking experience for adventurers who want to carry their own backpacks! It’s a great way to experience the true beauty of Fraser Island your way!
Enjoy a 4WD transfer into Central Station where you start your walk to Lake McKenzie. There is an optional side walk from Central Station to Pile Valley (an extra 4km return). On the way you will see the crystal clear Wanggoolba Creek, stop by the peaceful and beautiful Basin Lake before you arrive at the famous Lake McKenzie. You will then spend the night camping exclusively at the Lake McKenzie hikers camp, here you will be able to experience camping under the stars, and enjoy the peace and beauty of the lake at all hours including sunrise and sunset.
Spend the morning swimming at Lake McKenzie, also known by its indigenous name ‘Lake Boorangoora’. Enjoy the serenity of the secret hikers beach. Have lunch at fenced, picnic enclosures near the lake. Then hike from Lake McKenzie to Kingfisher Bay Resort enjoying the peaceful and calm nature as you hike back. Along the way you will stop by a historical site – McKenzie’s Jetty. Once you have arrived at the Kingfisher Jetty you are able to have a refreshing drink and snack, whilst you wait for your 4WD transfer back to Hervey Bay.
Note: At times there are NO toilet facilities and human waste must be buried at least 50cm deep. Fresh water is available at each camp but may have to be treated first.
